In Feng Shui, parts of your home and offices represents aspects of your life. Your workspaces (office, desk, cabinets, and etc..) connect and influence your career and performance.
Below are some Feng Shui Tips for optimizing your workspaces and offices.
Make Sure You Have a Desk
Desk means stable career. The ideal case is to put the desk in the dedicated working room. However, if you need to put the desk in a multifunction space, try to select a room other than the bedroom. Because, having a desk in a bedroom can be a distraction at night when one of you is working and one of you is sleeping. However, if you have to put the desk in the bedroom, then, try to use the divider (book case, cabinet, or curtains) to separate the space.
Position Your Desk for Success
The desk should be in command or commanding position. This position is where you can see the door to the room while you are sitting, but not directly in line with the door. This create the feeling of more control of your life and career, because you can see anything that might be approaching.
However, if you cannot set up the desk this way, you can use the mirror so that you can see the door in the reflection while sitting at your desk.
Create Good Flow
Pay attend to the space around your desks. Are there any obstacles between you and your desk? These obstacles and work flow represent the block and smoothness in life. So, if you have blocks and obstacles inside your room, you can re-arrange and remove them. With the new arrangement, you can approach your career with confident, and have room around you to grow.
Choose the Best Desk
Select solid and sturdy desk. This creates more stability in your career. Try not to select the glass work surface, because, new ideas and innovations can fall through and get lost.
Desk BlotterYou may also want to add a desk blotter to bring in more earth element qualities like roundedness and stability. Choose a color you’re drawn to, or pick one according to the element that you want to invite in:
- Water element: Black for intuition, wisdom, and social connections
- Wood element:Green or blue for growth, new beginnings, and rejuvenation
- Earth element: Yellow or brown for nourishment, boundaries, and support
- Metal element: White for precision, organization, and beauty
- Fire element:Red for inspiration, passion, and recognition
Choose a Supportive Chair
Select the chair with a high back. This means the support in your work life. But, most importantly, make sure that it is comfortable to sit in for long hours of work. You can also consider the five element colors above, and choose a chair that embodies an element you’d like to invite into your work.
Use the Bagua on Your Desk
You may be familiar with the Feng Shui Bagua, which is a mandala consisting of eight areas around a center. Laying down the Bagua on your desk can give you clues about what is happening in your careers. Try to look for the area in which clutters tend to accumulate.
For example, if things pile up in the money corner, this means that your wealth may be tied up. Or, if you usually have a clutter at the bottom, in the career area, this means that there might be some obstacles for your work or career.
Activate the Wealth Corner
One of the areas of the Feng Shui Bagua is the wealth and abundance corner, called Xun in Chinese. This area is very popular, and activating it can invite more wealth and prosperity to flow to you. The wealth corner is of your office is the left corner farthest from you when you stand in the door way and facing in. To activate it, try placing an amethyst or citrine crystal there for attention
Boost the Fame Area
The fame and recognition area, called Li in Chinese, is related to how you are seen and recognized by others. If you imagine a three-by-three grid overlaid on your office, this is located at the center section of the far side when you looking into your office. If you feel like you want to be recognized more for your work, or, if you are working on somethings that need more visibility and recognitions, this is an important area to activate. You can activate it by adding plant or some colorful items.
